A Century of Brotherhood & One Legendary Send-off: Greville Lodge Celebrates Centenary milestone
WARWICK – It was a “full house” at Alderson House recently as Greville Lodge No. 4773 gathered for a landmark occasion: the celebration of their Centenary meeting and a special festive board that marked the end of an era in more ways than one.
The evening reached its ceremonial peak when Philip Hall, the head of Freemasonry in Warwickshire, accompanied by a distinguished retinue of Provincial officers presented the Lodge with its Centenary Warrant.
The meeting was made even more poignant by the fact that the current Worshipful Master of Greville Lodge is none other than David Butcher, the Past Deputy Provincial Grand Master. Under his direction, the presentation was described by those in attendance as “predictably special and memorable,” with the lodge room packed to the rafters with brethren and guests eager to witness this once-in-a-century event.
Founded in Warwick in 1925, Greville Lodge has a storied history. It was originally consecrated in the Great Hall of the magnificent Warwick Castle, taking its name from the Greville family (the Earls of Warwick). Since 1962, the Lodge has called Alderson House on High Street its home, where it continues to uphold a reputation for excellence in ritual and a warm, progressive atmosphere.
The Festive Board: 80 Guests and a Final Farewell
Following the ceremony, over 80 guests sat down for a superb three-course meal. While the atmosphere was filled with celebration and fun, the festive board also carried a bittersweet note.
The evening featured one of the final menus prepared by Alderson House’s legendary chef Mark Naylor. After 17 years of dedicated service and an estimated 500,000 meals (yes you read that right!), preparing for a well-deserved retirement. The centenary dinner served as the perfect tribute to his legacy, providing a legendary send-off for a man who has been a cornerstone of the Warwick dining experience.
Looking to the Future
As the Lodge celebrates 100 not out, the sentiment of the evening was one of deep gratitude for the past and excitement for the future. A massive congratulations to all the members of Greville Lodge and we look forward to the next hundred years!
